Concrete Services in Woree

Woree sits on the southern side of Cairns, about seven kilometres from the CBD, where the Bruce Highway splits into Mulgrave Road and Ray Jones Drive. It is a busy, family-oriented suburb, with Woree State School, Woree State High School, St Gerard Majella and Saint Mary's College all close by, plus the Cairns Golf Club, the Woree Sports and Aquatic Centre and the Cannon Park racecourse. A good share of the housing went up from around the 1980s onward, so many driveways and paths are now reaching the age where cracks, stains and sunken sections start to show. Cairns Concrete Driveways replaces and extends driveways across Woree, whether that means a new concrete driveway, a wider parking area for a second car or a pad for the caravan.

With so many families in the suburb, we get plenty of requests for practical work: a concrete slab for a carport or shed, a path around the side of the house, or a non-slip surround for a backyard pool. Southside summers are hot and humid, so we start pours early in the morning, keep deliveries tight and cure the surface carefully to help limit shrinkage cracking. For homeowners after something more decorative, exposed aggregate and stamped concrete are both popular and handle daily wear well. You get a written quote, a realistic timeframe that allows for wet season weather, and a crew that turns up when we say it will.

Why choose us

Why Locals in Woree Trust Our Crew

Family-Friendly Scheduling

We know school runs and work trips do not stop for a concrete job. We plan the pour so you know when the driveway will be out of action, how long to keep cars off it and where to park in the meantime.

Early Starts in the Heat

Southside afternoons get hot and sticky. We schedule pours for the cooler part of the morning where we can, and cure fresh concrete properly, because a rushed set in the heat is one of the main causes of surface problems later on.

Wet Season Contingency

Between roughly December and April, storms can roll in fast. We watch the forecast closely, keep covers on hand and will move a pour if heavy rain is likely, rather than risk a damaged finish that you then have to live with.

Neat Joins to Existing Work

Extensions and repairs only look good if the join is tidy. We saw-cut straight edges, place joints where they help control cracking and match finishes as closely as the existing concrete allows, and tell you upfront if an exact match is not realistic.

One Crew, Start to Finish

From demolition and excavation to boxing, pouring and sealing, the same crew handles the job. You have a single point of contact and a team that knows the plan, rather than a string of different trades turning up at different times.

Straightforward Pricing

We quote clearly and explain what affects the cost, such as site access, base work, reinforcement and finish. There are no surprises added at the end without a conversation first, and if you want to compare finishes, we can price more than one option.

Woree Concrete FAQs

Here are some of the questions Woree families ask us when planning a new driveway, slab or pool surround.

As a general guide, foot traffic is usually fine after a day or so, and cars can often go on after about a week, but heavier vehicles such as a loaded ute, caravan or boat trailer are best kept off for longer. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks after it is poured, and the weather, mix design and slab thickness all play a part. We will give you specific advice for your job on the day, including when to remove any barriers. If you have a tight timeframe, such as a caravan coming home on a set date, let us know when quoting so we can plan around it.

Light drizzle is not always a problem, but heavy rain on fresh concrete can damage the surface, wash out the finish and weaken the top layer. In the wet season we watch forecasts closely in the days leading up to a pour and make a call early if storms look likely. If a downpour arrives unexpectedly, we cover the work as quickly as we can. Where rain is clearly on the way, we would rather reschedule than pour into it. We will keep you updated throughout, and a weather delay does not change the scope of the job we have agreed on.

Pool surrounds need grip when wet, a surface that is comfortable on bare feet and good drainage away from the pool. Exposed aggregate with a fine stone, a light broom finish or honed concrete can all work well, and lighter colours tend to stay cooler in the sun. Falls should take splash and rain away from both the pool and the house. Pool fencing rules in Queensland are strict, so the surround needs to work with your fence layout and gates. We suggest confirming fencing requirements with a pool safety certifier or Cairns Regional Council before the slab design is finalised.

We can come close, though a perfect colour match is hard to guarantee. Older concrete has weathered, faded and collected stains over the years, while new concrete starts out lighter and cleaner. Plain concrete usually blends in over time, and exposed aggregate can be matched reasonably well if the original stone blend is still available. Where a seamless look really matters, some owners choose to resurface or overlay the old section so the whole area finishes the same. We will be honest about what to expect, and can show you a sample before the pour so there are no surprises.

Reactive clay under parts of Cairns expands in the wet and contracts in the dry, and that seasonal movement can crack and shift a slab over the years. Ground conditions can vary from street to street, so we look at your site during the quote and check for signs such as cracked paths, soft spots or poor drainage. Good base preparation, the right thickness, reinforcement and well-placed control joints all help concrete cope with movement. If you have an engineer's report or soil test from when the house was built, it is worth having it handy when we quote.
