Concrete Cairns
Concrete in Cairns asks more of a contractor than concrete in a mild, settled climate, which is why we work as a dedicated Cairns concrete company. Hot days push the set along quickly. Wet-season storms deliver rain that needs a planned path off the block. Below the topsoil you might strike reactive clay, soft alluvial soil, or rock sitting just under the surface on the foothill blocks. Skip those details and the cracks usually show up after a few wet seasons.
That is why our planning starts with the limits of each site. We pick a pour date only after weighing the forecast, the season and the curing time the slab needs. Access tells us whether the truck can chute straight in, whether we pump, or whether it goes in by barrow in sections. How deep we dig and how much steel goes in depends on the soil we uncover on the day. None of that makes for exciting reading, but it is what keeps a driveway level and free of cracks a decade and a half from now.
Our residential work covers driveways, slabs for houses and sheds, footings, patios, paths and retaining walls, and for commercial clients we pour car parks, hardstand and forecourts. When an existing surface only needs a repair or a resurface, we will tell you, because it saves you money and is often the better option. Call or send a message and we will visit, assess the site and put a written quote together for you.

Exposed aggregate makes a bigger difference to a property than almost any other finish. Once the top layer is washed off, the stones in the mix show through, giving driveways, patios, paths and pool areas real texture and colour. A plain grey surface becomes something that improves the look of the whole house from the street.
It also earns its place on practical grounds. The raised stone offers traction for tyres and feet in the rain, which matters a great deal given how much rain Cairns gets, and it copes with monsoonal downpours and harsh UV better than a smooth or painted slab. Tyre marks and everyday scuffs blend into the stone, so it stays presentable with minimal maintenance.

Under most tired slabs there is a good floor waiting. We grind back stained, patchy or worn concrete until the aggregate shows, then harden and polish it in steps to whatever level of shine you prefer. It works just as well for a lounge room, a kitchen and dining space, or a busy warehouse with forklifts running all day.
It is a practical floor as well as a good-looking one. Polished concrete feels cool on hot Cairns days, and with no carpet soaking up damp, a home is less likely to develop that musty wet-season smell. Dust and allergens have nowhere to settle, spills mop up quickly, and it handles constant foot traffic without fuss. Prefer a quieter look? The same slab can be taken to a low-sheen honed finish.

Get your estimate
Send your address and a summary of the project. We will give you a rough idea of cost and book a visit, because we only quote properly once we have seen the site.
We weigh the factors
At the property we look at the slope, the soil type, how stormwater currently flows, and whether a full concrete truck can get close to the work.
Thorough inspection
Your written quote breaks down labour, materials, cartage and tip fees as separate items, so you can see exactly how the total adds up.
Concept, budget, build
Once you decide to go ahead, we look after any council crossover requirements, confirm a pour date, then excavate, set the formwork and steel, pour and cure.
Choosing the Right Concrete Contractor in Cairns
Local Experience
Choose a contractor who understands Cairns conditions, including heavy wet season rain, humidity and coastal exposure, so your concrete is prepared, poured and finished to handle the tropics.
Proven Workmanship
Ask to see completed local projects, read recent reviews and confirm they are licensed and insured. Quality contractors always prepare the base properly, reinforce correctly and finish cleanly.
Clear Communication
Look for a contractor who provides a detailed written quote, explains the process, keeps to agreed timeframes and answers questions promptly, so you know exactly what to expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Plain answers on Cairns concrete pricing, how hot weather and monsoon rain affect curing, the best finishes for sloping driveways, and when you can drive on new concrete.
Site preparation is included, and on Cairns jobs it usually decides how the result turns out. We excavate, remove material that is not fit to build on, level and compact the ground, sort out drainage and lay a crushed rock base. Some parts of the region have reactive clay that expands in the wet and contracts in the dry, which will eventually move a slab poured straight on top. Low-lying ground near the coast and around the Barron delta can be soft and hold water, and in hillside suburbs such as Edge Hill, Whitfield and Bayview Heights we sometimes find granite just under the surface that needs a rock breaker. We excavate to suit the actual conditions, build a firm, compacted base and plan drainage to keep water away from the concrete.
Area and finish give us a starting figure, but site conditions often shift the price more than people expect. On hillside blocks, slope is a major factor, since steep drives can need extra digging, edge beams or retaining, plus a textured surface for traction. Soil plays a part too: reactive clay or soft alluvium might need a thicker base, rock makes excavation slower, and heavy wet-season runoff may call for more drainage. Access determines whether a truck can reverse up the drive or whether we need a pump or wheelbarrows, which is typical on older lots with tight side access. Taking out an existing driveway also adds to the total. We price every job after seeing it and break the quote down so you know what each part costs.
Most of our work is driveways, but we handle concrete for homes, businesses and light industry: patios, footpaths and garden paths, slabs for homes and sheds, footings, retaining walls, kerbs, pavers, hardstand and car parks, as well as decorative work, repairs and resurfacing. We also take care of the stages either side of pouring, from digging out and preparing the site to demolishing and removing old concrete that needs replacing. Not sure if a worn surface needs replacing or simply resurfacing? We will give you an honest assessment of what your slab needs.
Our service area takes in the inner suburbs such as Cairns North, Parramatta Park, Manunda, Manoora and Earlville, the western side including Edge Hill, Whitfield, Brinsmead, Redlynch and Freshwater, the northern beaches from Trinity Beach and Kewarra Beach to Clifton Beach and Palm Cove, and the south through Woree, Mount Sheridan, Bentley Park, Edmonton and Gordonvale. For jobs further out, availability depends on how big the job is and our current bookings. Let us know the address plus a line or two about what you need, so we can confirm timing and book a site visit.
We do. We regularly pour car parks, forecourts, warehouse and workshop floors, loading bays, turning areas, yards and machinery pads. Commercial concrete is specified differently from a home driveway: heavier loads call for thicker slabs and more steel, and the finish needs to stay safe for people and vehicles in the rain. Most of these projects follow an engineer’s design and AS 3600 where relevant. Timing matters too, because few businesses can close for long, so we can split the work into stages and keep part of the site running while other sections are poured and cured.
For most driveways, broom finishing is the sensible choice: it is economical, tough and keeps its grip in the rain. Exposed aggregate costs a bit more but offers even better traction and disguises wear, so many people choose it for steep drives and pool areas. Coloured and stamped concrete give you the greatest say over the look, which suits homes where the drive plays a big role in street appeal. If your block slopes, we would advise against a smooth steel-trowelled finish, because it becomes slippery in heavy rain and worse still once mould or algae start growing. We are happy to show you examples and suggest a finish that suits your slope and conditions.
Concrete hardens within a few hours but continues to gain strength for weeks. Walking on it carefully is generally okay after 24 to 48 hours, while vehicles need to wait around seven days. It reaches its full design strength at about 28 days. Hot weather accelerates the initial set, leaving less time for finishing and increasing the chance of surface cracks, so during the warmer months we start pours early and keep the concrete damp. Good curing is as important as a good mix, because concrete that loses moisture too fast, or takes a battering from a storm before it sets, ends up weaker, so we manage curing carefully and hand over aftercare notes written for your particular slab and pour day.
Yes, and removal is often a larger part of the work than people expect. We break up the old slab, whether it is a driveway, patio or path, truck the rubble away, remove any failed base material, then build a new compacted foundation for the pour. The cost depends on how thick the old concrete is, whether it has steel in it, how easily machines can reach it, and how much material goes to the tip or recycling. Older homes with limited access may need smaller equipment and extra hand work, which is why demolition and disposal appear as their own lines on our quote.
