What we offer

Concrete Patio Services in Cairns

Outdoor Kitchen Slabs

Slabs for barbecues, benches, sinks and pizza ovens, with conduit and plumbing sleeves cast in before the pour so nobody is chasing concrete later. We size the area to give the cook room to move, with space for a table and chairs close by.

Bases For Patio Roofs

If an insulated roof or pergola is going up, the slab can be poured with thickened pads where the posts will land. Talking to your roofing installer early means post brackets bolt straight down, and the finished cover keeps both sun and wet-season downpours off the area.

Patio Extensions

Adding to an existing slab that has become too small for the family or a new outdoor setting. We dowel the new section into the old one, keep the levels continuous across both, and place the dividing joint where it reads naturally, so the extension looks planned from the start.

Garden Retreat Patios

A separate patio away from the house, around a fire bowl, hammock or day bed, gives you a second spot to enjoy cooler evenings in the dry season. We link it back to the house with a path or stepping pads and keep the slab clear of overhanging branches.

Front Entry Patios

A small patio at the front door or beside the carport is somewhere to leave shoes, sit with a coffee and greet guests out of the rain. We tie it in with the front steps and path so the entry looks tidy and considered from the street.

Old Patio Makeovers

Pavers that have sunk, or a cracked slab beyond saving, can be removed and replaced with a new pour, while sound but tired concrete can be resurfaced instead. We look at what is already there and tell you honestly which route makes more sense for your yard.

A concrete patio quickly becomes the spot for morning coffee, weekend barbecues and evenings outside once the day cools down. Our Cairns patio team keeps the planning relaxed, and you can start in whichever way works best for you.

  • Show us inspiration images: Send screenshots of patios you love, plus a photo of your backyard, and we will suggest finishes that suit the space.
  • Arrange a measure and chat: We visit to mark out the area, check where roof water lands and discuss colour, texture and sealing options in person.
  • Call to talk ideas: Ring us to talk through size, shade, covered roof plans and budget, and we will explain which finishes give the best value.

Every slab is graded so rain runs off and clear of your walls, and the finishes we recommend stay pleasant underfoot when the weather heats up. You can expect a clean site and regular updates as the job progresses. Reach out for an obligation-free quote on your new outdoor living area.

Why choose us

What Sets Our Concrete Patio Team Apart in Cairns

Placed Where You Will Use It

We spend time on site noting where the afternoon sun hits, where shade falls and which way the trade winds and sea breezes blow. A patio set out with those in mind stays comfortable through a Cairns summer instead of sitting empty.

Level Thresholds At The Door

Stepping out of a sliding door onto a patio should feel natural. We set the slab height against the door sill and floor level so there is no awkward drop or lip, while keeping it low enough that storm water cannot get inside.

Room Planned For Furniture

We size the slab around how you actually entertain, measuring for the table, chairs, barbecue and a clear walkway past them. Too many patios end up a metre short once the outdoor setting arrives, and extending later never looks quite as clean.

Groundwork For Clay Soils

Plenty of Cairns suburbs sit on clay that swells in the wet and shrinks in the dry, which can tip one corner of a slab. Soft ground is excavated, the base is compacted hard and we reinforce the concrete so it holds level through those seasonal changes.

A Tidy Joint Grid

Concrete has to shrink somewhere, so we give it a neat grid to do it in, aligned with walls, posts and slab edges. Any cracking then follows a clean line, and the pattern looks considered rather than cut at random.

Resealing Advice Included

Decorative and coloured finishes fade and stain faster under tropical UV and long months of rain. We apply sealer once the slab is ready to take it, then explain the signs that the surface is ready for another coat.

Concrete Patio FAQs

The questions Cairns homeowners raise most when planning a patio: likely cost, the best finish for outdoor use, building on a slope, how long the job takes, and whether it will crack.

Size gives the starting point, but the site often decides the rest. A flat yard with easy access is the simple case. A patio benched into rising ground, needing excavation, a retaining wall and a few steps, is a much bigger job, and many foothill blocks in places like Brinsmead, Edge Hill and Bayview Heights fall into that group. Striking rock during the dig adds machine time. The finish counts as well, since exposed aggregate and stamped work are dearer than broom, and narrow access in older streets may mean a pump or barrows. After measuring on site, we list earthworks and concrete separately so the quote is easy to follow.

For most local homes, a light broom texture or exposed aggregate. Each grips well underfoot when wet, which counts during a storm or in shaded corners where algae and mould take hold, and each hides the scuffs and spills of everyday outdoor use. Stamped and coloured concrete make a striking feature, but they need resealing every so often to hold their colour in the strong northern sun. The finish we advise against outside is smooth steel-trowelled concrete. It looks great in photos and becomes slick as soon as rain hits it.

It can, and sloping sites make up a good part of our work given how many hillside blocks there are around Cairns. We excavate into the hillside to form a flat platform, retain the bank so it stays stable, and deal with the runoff the cut will now catch. That drainage step is critical, because digging into a hill changes where water travels, and a slab that ignores this turns into a pond in the wet. In Queensland, retaining walls over about a metre high, or close to a building or another wall, generally need approval, so we check early with a private certifier or Cairns Regional Council. Steps down to the garden can be built in the same job.

Allow roughly a week on site for a simple patio, sometimes a little less: boxing, base preparation, the pour, finishing and stripping the forms. The extras around the slab are what stretch it out, such as excavating a slope, breaking rock, building retaining walls or adding drainage and steps. Weather has a say too. In the wet season we watch for heavy storms near pour day, and in hot months we start early and keep the concrete properly cured. Walking on it is normally fine within 48 hours, though wait about a week before moving the outdoor setting and barbecue on. Decorative finishes need extra time for sealing, and we set out the full schedule in the quote.

Some fine hairline cracks are expected in any slab and are not a fault, because curing concrete dries out and pulls in slightly, and that tension finds a release. We manage this by saw cutting joints in a deliberate pattern, so cracks tend to run neatly along a joint rather than across the open surface. Bigger structural cracks are prevented below ground, with proper excavation, a compacted road base and steel reinforcement. Much of Cairns has clay that expands in the wet and contracts in the dry, and solid preparation underneath keeps the slab in one piece rather than splitting into sections that move on their own.
