Concrete Services in Manunda

Manunda is a flat inner suburb about three and a half kilometres west of the Cairns CBD, surrounded by Edge Hill, Cairns North, Manoora, Parramatta Park, Mooroobool and Westcourt. It falls neatly into three parts: homes across the south, a commercial and industrial estate along Anderson Street through the middle, and sportsgrounds and the historic Cairns Cemetery on Martyn Street to the north. Town lots were first auctioned here in 1939, and the suburb is home to Trinity Bay State High School, Cairns West State School and a TAFE Queensland campus. Cairns Concrete Driveways works across all three parts of Manunda, from a new concrete driveway for a family home to industrial concrete floors and yards for local businesses.

Plenty of Manunda's older houses sit up on stumps, and the space underneath is often crying out for a proper slab. Concreting under the house creates a clean, usable area for parking, storage, a laundry or an outdoor living space out of the sun and rain. We plan these jobs around existing stumps, plumbing and access, and can add polished concrete or a sealed finish for a cleaner look. For older driveways, concrete crack repair can extend their life where the slab is still sound. Manunda sits low and flat, so we always set falls with wet-season downpours in mind, and we schedule pours early on hot days to give the concrete a good start.

Why choose us

Why Locals in Manunda Trust Our Crew

Experienced With Raised Homes

Working under and around homes on stumps takes care. We plan around posts, bracing, plumbing and limited head height, use the right equipment for tight spaces and protect the house structure throughout, so the finished slab fits the space properly.

Industrial Capability

From small workshop floors to larger yards, we have the crew and equipment for commercial and industrial pours. We coordinate pump trucks, deliveries and staged work so your business can keep operating as smoothly as possible while the concrete goes down.

Thoughtful Colour Advice

Colours look different on a small sample than on a full driveway in Cairns sunshine. We show you samples outdoors, explain how darker tones absorb heat and how lighter ones show dirt, and help you pick a shade you will be happy with.

Drainage on Low Ground

Manunda's flat, low-lying ground means water management needs careful thought. We check levels at every stage, from base preparation to final finishing, so water is carried away from homes, under-house areas and workshop doors in heavy rain instead of pooling where it can cause damage.

Quotes That Explain the Options

We set out what each option involves, from repair to replacement or decorative finishes, so you can compare them properly. Our written quotes are detailed, easy to read and clear about what is and is not included in the price.

Prompt, Practical Service

We return calls, turn up to site visits on time and give you a clear idea of when work can start. If something on the job changes, we talk to you first and agree on the next step before going ahead.

Manunda Concrete FAQs

Here are answers to the questions Manunda homeowners and business owners ask us most often.

Yes, it is one of the more popular jobs in suburbs with older raised homes. We look at the head height, the position of stumps and any plumbing or electrical services, then plan how to get concrete in, often with a line pump if a truck cannot reach. The slab is poured around the stumps rather than over their bases where possible, so they can still be inspected. Falls are set toward the edges so water drains out. If you plan to enclose the area as a living space, check with Cairns Regional Council or a certifier first, as building approvals may apply.

Start with how the floor will be used. Forklift traffic, racking loads, vehicle movements and any chemicals or oils on the floor all affect the design. Larger industrial slabs are usually designed by an engineer, with set thickness, reinforcement and joint layout, so having drawings ready helps us quote accurately. Surface finish matters too, from a non-slip broom finish for wash-down areas to a smooth or polished finish that is easy to sweep. We also plan access for trucks and pumps, timing around your operations and how long the floor needs before it can take traffic and loads.

Fine hairline cracks are common in concrete and are often caused by normal shrinkage as it cures. They are usually cosmetic. Cracks that are wide, keep growing, or have one side higher than the other are more concerning, as they can point to base movement, tree roots, water washing out underneath or heavy loads. Sunken or rocking panels are another warning sign. We inspect the crack, look at drainage and the surrounding concrete, and tell you honestly whether a repair will do the job or whether that section should be cut out and replaced on a fresh base.

We aim to get out for a site visit promptly and provide a written quote soon after. Start dates depend on the size of the job, the time of year and our current bookings. Wet season weather can affect scheduling, as heavy rain may push pours back by a few days, so we build some flexibility into the plan. Smaller jobs such as paths or repairs can sometimes be fitted in sooner. If you have a deadline, for example a carport delivery or a tenant moving in, let us know when you call so we can see what is possible.

All coloured concrete changes a little over time, and strong tropical UV, rain and traffic all play a part. Using quality oxide pigments mixed through the concrete, rather than only a surface colour, helps the colour stay consistent. A good sealer gives extra protection and enhances the tone, but it does wear and needs reapplying from time to time to keep the colour looking its best. Mid-range tones often hold up and hide dirt better than very dark or very light shades. We can show you weathered examples and samples so you have realistic expectations before choosing.
